9 DIY things to make for a Handmade Christmas Holiday 2015

I have not made a decent post in a while and since the new layout update to my new blog I feel like I should be more frequent with the blog posts. I hope you guys enjoy the new layout as I will be trying to be more active on here. I am more active on my Youtube page PaperChaserTO so if you haven’t checked that out yet head over there and don’t forget to subscribe =).

Anyways, with the upcoming Christmas Holiday’s quickly approaching I wanted to share with you some Christmas ideas that I have put together last year 2014.  All of these are homemade craft video tutorials and will allow you to have day activities to do by yourself, with other adults or your kids. I will assemble all the videos here and don’t worry they are easy Christmas crafts ;) nothing you can’t do. They include anywhere from homemade holidays gifts, homemade decorations, and basic Christmas arts and crafts. I hope you all the best for your handmade Christmas and wish everyone an early happy 2016 New Year’s.

Enjoy.

Decided to just release everything at once instead of slowly releasing videos. They are much more interesting to view when they are all together. =D

I spent a while making these cards and designing them was a fun process, I think I need to make more though.

If you want to know how to make one of these I made a tutorial. You can view it right here:

This was a card I made for a friend to give to his little brother for his birthday because he loved playing Dota 2. It was fun for me to make because I know a few things about Dota 2. The Dota 2 cosplay I have seen are pretty, well done, and amazing.

I made a cut out of both the characters with my personal electronic cutting machine. The sentry and ward has pennies stuck under them so they can move around. I embossed the Happy Birthday Robert in the text. It is has a very minimal sleek feel to the card.

My friend also gathers content for Dota 2:

HI GUYS!

Quilling! Have you gotten onto the quilling craze?  This is a great paper craft to do, it's easy, quick, and so much fun.

Back in grade 4, as an art project we cut strips of construction paper and twirled it with our pencils.  I made a quilled pair of scissors which got featured at an art exhibit at a local university (which I eventually attended years later).

Now over a decade later I found this really cool kit by Klutz called Twirled Paper which included a twirling wand and precut papers I knew I wanted to get it.  For some reason it's nearly impossible to find a quilling tool in Toronto (anyone know where I'd be able to find one?)  The thing I love about starter kits like these are that they give you everything that you need to get started at a really inexpensive price.

For a little over $20 CAD, the Twirled Paper kit comes with a twirling wand, 110 - 1/8-24" paper strips in 28 different colours, 4 oz bottle of glue, 3 tooth picks, 22 googly eyes in 3 different sizes, a pin board with a 9 inch ruler, and a 56 page instructional book.  In addition to the supplies included, some useful tools you may need are a pin (for your off centre coils made on the pin board) and some tweezers (for gluing those small pieces).

The twirling wand is like any other quilling tool, the handle is all plastic (which I've read isn't the best, but perfect for a beginner like me).  The strips of paper are vibrantly coloured and easy to work with.  I found the instructional book very easy to follow, detailed descriptions with clear pictures to accompany.  The projects included are cute, simple, and are easily scalable to be more detailed by adding more coils.

The only complaint I have would be the 4 oz bottle of glue.  It was really runny and wasn't very tacky.  Upon closer inspection, it was more like acrylic paint.  When I first took the bottle out of the package, I could see through the bottle that it had settled and began to separate (like acrylic paint).  While making my practice coils, I used a bit too much of the glue and thought it wouldn't be such a big deal because glues usually dry clear regardless of what colour it is initially - I was so wrong.  You can see the white marks on some of the practice coils in my review video which would be clear with better glue.  I simply emptied the bottle, cleaned it, and filled it with Aleene's Tacky Glue which made a world of a difference.  The tacky glue is thick enough to easily be controlled in the bottle and dries relatively quickly so there's not much waiting time to shape your coil.

I think the Klutz Twirled Paper kit would be perfect for anybody wanting to get into quilling who are looking for a quick one stop shop.  May it be for young kid or older adult, this kit is great to get your hands quickly on this type of art.  I hope to do more art pieces with the quilling technique.  Something more than just a pair of scissors :P

Hi everyone so I made these colorful tealight cakes and wanted to share. I have been doing crafting for a while now and I'm starting to work on a product line. This is one of the official products I am trying to sell. If you support me make sure you grab a template!

I know what everyone might think oh... she is trying to sell something now? ugh... but hear me out. I have been giving away free things for a long time and I still will be giving out free things. I really want this passion to be a full-time job and this is the only way I can think of to really live off crafting.

No one can really make a living off this hobby without selling something right? If I do end up getting the support from everyone then I will be able to spend more time creating for you guys. I hope no one is offended by this and I will try my best even if its slow sometimes to provide free tutorials and templates for everyone =D Cheers.

Wish me luck!

It's officially SPRING 2015!  The snow has melted (most of it) and we've been getting some really nice and warm days!  I love the spring because it just breathes life back into the world.  Here's my springtime inspired box card for a special birthday.

I found an amazing paper pad I had laying around with the cutest double sided paper which i used to make the envelope.

I thought a cute addition to the card would be a band to hold the flaps up.  Some kraft paper and a white daisy gives a hint of what's to be expected inside.

You can see how much the card  bows without the band.

Exploding Box in a Card - Birthday Edition

HI GUYS! Here's something I've been working on lately.  These exploding box in a cards have gotten so popular over pinterest and crafting youtubers so I thought I'd have to give it a try,  They are super easy to make and fun to put together!

The card is 5x7 inches and will fit into a standard A7 envelope.

When you begin to twist the card, it turns 3D and the sides fall down to reveal spots for embellishments, writing, and a photo mat.

These cards are perfect to gift to a birthday girl/boy or used as invitations.

If you would like to get your hands on one of these, I will be selling a DIY kit which you will get all the pieces needed to replicate this card.  If a kit is not something you are into making, I will also be selling a premade cards and bulk orders (more than 5 cards)

Happy Lunar New Year!

2015 is the year of the goat..or is it the ram..or is it the sheep? The Chinese word for goat means ram and sheep as well.  Of the 5 elements, earth, fire, metal, wood, and water, this is the year of the wood goat.

The Goat is probably the most artistic of all the twelve animals with a big passion for theatre, literature, music or art. They are natural creators and are rarely happier than when they are occupied in an artistic pursuit. As well as having a passion for art they can also be quite religious people and often have a deep interest in nature, animals and the countryside. - Feng Shui Store

This year I decided to make red envelopes for my family and it went amazingly!  It was 3 days of cutting, scoring, and gluing; it was quite relaxing even after a long day of work.  I'll cut this short and insert the images:

I wanted to stick to original envelope sizes to keep things familiar

These envelopes open out with a pocket for mullah and space for text

I have a collection of super old gel pens that barely work, the new gold metallic Uniball one I got was amazing to work with!

Ballerina Tealight Cake Tutorial

HI GUYS! I'm so excited to share this tutorial because it's the first tealight cake design of 2015.  I featured 2 of my new designs and will be making a tutorial for the Spectre cake soon enough.  But let's jump into it.

Materials

Coloured papers (4 shades)
Cake template
LED tealight candle
Scissors
Ruler
Glue gun
Jewel stickers
Paper Trimmer (optional)

Paper Prep

Begin with an 8.5x11" of the coloured paper. Cut in half lengthwise to give 2, 4.25x11".  Then cut it along the 11" side into 0.5" strips, this gives you strips that are 0.5x4.25".  You will need 14-16 strips.

Roses

Take your strip and fold the corner into an acute triangle.  Fold the triangle in on itself along the inside edge.  Fold the working end back on itself.

Then fold the triangle in half, this acts like a spindle.

Begin rolling the the spindle into the working end until you reach the end of the fold.

Fold the working end back on itself, like before.

Continue rolling and folding the working end until you reach the end of the strip.  Add some glue and secure into place.

Assembly

Attach the face and side pieces to your tealight candle.

Place glue on the back of the rose and glue it onto the cake starting from the bottom with the darkest shade.

Add some bling stickers to the top of the candle.
